Text from a flier handed out at Occupy Seattle at Westlake:
Occupying a building or a square is an illegal act, an act that requires courage and commitment. Without the clear intention of occupying and defending a space in defiance of the law and the police, any attempt at occupation will fail.
Last May in Syntagma Square in Athens, an occupation of hundreds of thousands of people was attacked by the police and crushed, yet to regain its momentum. No one planned to defend themselves in the square, and an oppurtunity to storm parliament was lost.
We must not repeat their mistakes and get lost in a quagmire of vagueness. If our intention is to take and hold space, we will require the courage and commitment to do so. We must not shrink back from breaking the laws of the police who will try to crush us. Laws mean nothing and have clearly always served the ruling minorities. It is time to do away with law, to break into a world we will create for ourselves. Don't be afraid. Go for it.
EVERYTHING FOR EVERYONE!
