Update on Matt’s situation from No Political Repression:
Matt is being held in the Secure Housing Unit (isolation) at SeaTac. His lawyer guesses this is because he’s never been to prison before. He says he’s doing fine; reading trashy romance novels because that’s all he has access to. He may be moved to general population soon, where he’ll be able to play chess and have greater access to a phone.
I arrived just before noon, and wrote down events and times as I saw them. I'm only going to report what I had written here and spare artistic license for when I can collect my thoughts.
@~12:20pm we reached about 100-200 people, the critical mass which held for several hours.
From 11:30 - 2:20 the law enforcement presence was ~15 Federal Protective Service(FPS), 2 of which patrolled the courtyard and 5 more walked around the entrance above the stairs. There were ~10 SPD bike cops, and US Marshals who stayed inside the building.

We have received confirmation that the Asst. US Attorney presiding over this grand jury has already obtained immunity for one, if not both, of the subpeanuts for the 13th. This means that those granted immunity will have their contempt hearings and be taken to jail THAT DAY. While grand juries are closed to the public, contempt hearings aren’t! If you are planning to come to Seattle on the 13th, please be prepared to come inside the courthouse for any contempt hearing(s) that may happen. You’ll need photo ID and court-appropriate clothes. (If you think you might have an arrest warrant don’t try to come in the courthouse!!!) Don’t bring anything you wouldn’t be able to get past metal detectors and security guards.
Sorry but the event that was scheduled for tomorrow The Barricades of Spring: A Presentation of the Paris Commmune is cancelled, and postponed till next month.
On August 2nd, comrades faced a grand jury and refused to feed into the investigation that is taking place by those who ultimately seek to imprison our friends and loved ones. Subpoenas have now been issued for a later date and we expect this is far from over. For as long as those subpoenaed are resisting, a judge can hold them in contempt for a maximum of 18 months, or until the grand jury completes its term, whichever comes first. During this grand jury, jail time will be expected for friends which will cause stress and separation from those they love.
Grand juries and the repression surrounding them are focused specifically on isolation in an attempt to strike fear into the hearts of anarchists and all those associated with them. Whether you are close to those involved in the recent wave of Pacific Northwest anarchist repression or not, its impact has most likely touched your region.
In an attempt to counter that fear and isolation the days of August 24th to August 31st are being called as a week of solidarity with anarchists in the Pacific Northwest. Lets turn that fear back toward our common enemies and drive the impact of their repression into expressions of solidarity. Consider acting in ways that communicate the passion for freedom that those in the Northwest have continued to express by their refusal to cooperate with the State's witch hunt.
"A federal grand jury, convened in Seattle, issued subpoenas throughout the region. We will not cooperate"
