Maru Vs. ICE: First Court Date [Seattle]
March 15, 2018 @ 7:45 am - 10:30 pm
At the end of December, immigrant activist Maru Mora Villalpando received a letter from ICE putting her in deportation proceedings.
This coming Thursday, Maru will go before an immigration judge for the first hearing in her deportation case.
Maru is a fierce and tireless truth-speaker who has put her life on the line in the fight to end detention and deportation. She is clearly being targeted for her powerful activism, and she intends to continue fighting.
We are asking you to show up, to be present for Maru outside the immigration court building before and during the hearing. Please bring your signs (“Defend the Defender”, “ICE Hands Off Maru”) and your friends. Come early (7:45) to hear from Maru before she goes inside and to cheer her on. Starting at 8:30, a rally will take place outside the building while we wait for Maru to emerge and update us on what happens in court.
This is our chance to show up for Maru the way she’s shown up for thousands of other folks facing deportation. Let’s show up in force – with the same love and the same depth of commitment that she brings to the struggle every day.
Accessibility info: We will be gathering outside 1000 2nd Ave, in downtown Seattle, which can be reached by multiple buses and the light rail. We will be outdoors, but mostly gathered on a sidewalk under an overhang (and shielded from sun/rain).
