In June of 2025 over 5,000 people gathered for the No Kings rally at the Washington State capitol building on the occupied land of St’cas (the so-called “City of Olympia”).[1] The No Kings rally in October brought out thousands more, a rare sight in this town.[2]
Let’s show up!
WHEN: Saturday, March 28th @ 11:00 AM*
WHERE: Percival Landing, St’cas (so-called Olympia WA)
& shortly after that, uphill to the capitol building 🙁
*Not a typo! The rally is scheduled for 11:30, but come early! socialize, get to know other people there (do anything besides waiting).
Dress warm, carry water, cover-up; assume you’ll be on camera.
Whether you’re coming for the march or the rally; bring your own plans, a willingness to act & consider bringing something to share with others.
NO KINGS ! NO PRESIDENTS ! NO PRISONS ! NO BORDERS ! NO NATIONS ! NO GENOCIDE
That’s Everything! See You There 🙂
…
…?
…ok, maybe one more thing
This call is made with an assumption: We are not alone
Obscured by an ocean of American flags, away from the nonprofits & usual predatory orgs that see any struggle as a fundraiser or recruitment drive, there are others amongst the crowd who feel the same anger at inaction. This anger is isolating. The normalized horrors of everyday life & survival is unbearable enough without a rally full of supposedly radical chants left unactualized. We want to break with that normalcy, we want to act together, and are looking for the opportunity to do so (or in our better moments, making that opportunity & taking it).
This call is made with an encouragement: Let’s find each other
Those that read this call: Let’s gather together on March 28th at Percival landing, but not stop there. As hundreds and then perhaps thousands gather, be ready to find & encourage others who want more than empty words. We may find affinity in unexpected places, and perhaps someone who doesn’t look like you, who doesn’t call themself a radical or an anarchist (or whatever word you prefer) will find you, and realize you share the same hatred of every form of domination that they do, the same desire for a better world, and the same willingness to act. And perhaps you, them, and we, will act together.
This call is made with a reminder: The last rally sucked 🙁
The phrase “No Kings” is rendered toothless in its context. In a different world, perhaps it would gesture at the need to decapitate our leaders, a recognition that all who want to be free must utterly and completely destroy the systems of power & oppression we live under, along with their enforcers, and in their absence make something new, a world to which they can never return.
In our context, “No Kings” is a slogan and title made for a rally outside an empty capitol building. It is characterized by a sea of amerikkkan flags, signs proclaiming that this moment is an aberration. Blame for the ongoing atrocities of the state is laid against the current US administration, not the death machine of the state itself.
The phrase “No Kings” hopes for a return to more respectable oppressors, perhaps some reforms to the club of murderers we call police, ICE, CBP, the military, etc. It has no intention of dismantling the bi-partisan oppression and cruelties that murder and disappear our neighbors into prisons and detention camps, that funds genocide while calling for protests to remain “peaceful,” that bombs children overseas, that evict our neighbors from apartment buildings and then sweep them from encampments in the winter. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
We are each part of the context we live in. What is toothless in one moment can be fierce if we make it so.
This call is made with an acknowledgement: Nobody Owns a Protest
At the October 18th No Kings rally in St’cas, a few people in the crowd found themselves dissatisfied with waving signs by the the capitol. They were a mix of younger and older folks, not many—perhaps a dozen—who spontaneously took to the street, urging others to join them. They made it about half a block before giving up, not because of traffic or the police, but out of discouragement; the crowd on either side of the street chose to remain bystanders. For a moment though, they were ready to break with the spell normalcy that kept everyone else on the sidewalk. They were ready to break the law (traffic law at least). They wanted something else. Who knows what they would’ve done if more people joined them, or if they’d gone a bit further.
No single person gets to decide what happens on March 28th. Perhaps people will break that spell of normalcy again in a way you didn’t expect (maybe even ways you don’t like, and that’s fine). Maybe we’ll surprise each other and ourselves, maybe we will find each other and affinity, and accomplish more than we dared hope.
Or maybe it’ll be a short walk to an empty capitol building. It is what we make it.
NO KINGS ! NO PRESIDENTS ! NO PRISONS ! NO BORDERS ! NO NATIONS ! NO GENOCIDE ! NO NORMALCY
Free Palestine & Fuck the USA <3
