Fall Convergence [Olympia]
September 30, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Olympia has seen a rise in far right violence and an accompanying rise in anti-authoritarian resistance. Last Spring, The Evergreen State College permitted Patriot Prayer (an alt-right coalition of Christian nationalists, white supremacists, and fascists) to hold a rally on campus, creating an unsafe environment for faculty and students of color and anyone opposed to fascism. Despite this influx of activity we remain isolated and disorganized, rifts and conflicts between us abound. We feel the weight of the world on our backs and due to our isolation we can’t escape the cycle between urgency and burnout.
We would like to propose a space for people to break out of their alienation and meet each other face to face in hopes of coordinating for action, growing together and practicing mutual aid. As students and community members, we will reclaim our spaces and will not be intimidated. Let’s be good to each other so we can be dangerous together!
We propose a regular event series for anti-authoritarians and autonomous folks happening once per season for the purpose of
1) creating a public forum as an entry point to get plugged into radical organizing
2) a forum for different cliques, crews, organizations, and tendencies to find each other, build affinity, and collaborate.
3) A way for our communities to have in-person discussions on pressing and important issues in Olympia.
4) Providing an opportunity for tabling, political education, and outreach.
5) This is not a platform for political parties, ballot initiatives, or authoritarian/oppressive bullshit.
We hope this will be a non-sectarian forum that will provide a space for people to plug in based on the type of organizing they want to get involved in. How can we end the oppressive hellscape that surrounds us? What steps can we take together towards collective liberation in Olympia? Our power lies within each other.
