Olympia Assembly #3
May 21, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Olympia Assembly #3 Direct Action Planning Meeting
Lets organize together to build a horizontal and free society. There are many particular issues and groups organizing in Olympia. Lets plug into groups already doing good work, and see how we can work in tandem and autonomously for shared goals. Bring your comrades and friends!
Feel free to bring food, zines, tables, stuff for a really really free market, and banners!
1. What can we do to stop the anti homeless ordinances? How can we assist Just Housing and work seperately on similar issues and similar goals? How can we stop the police harrassment and criminalization of houseless people in Olympia? Just Housing has proposed stopping the bad things that the city government are doing as a good first step in that direction. What can Oly Assembly and informal networks do that is not already being done on such issues?
Check out Just Housing
2. How can people plug into the already existing Northwest Detention Center resistance? For those who do not know, there are hunger strikes happening within detention facilities, and solidarity actions happening outside the detention centers by people who have been working on this for awhile. How can we potentially work in tandem with such groups meaningfully?
Check out NWDC Resistance/Resistencia al NWDC
3. Gentrification is coming to Olympia. Gentrification is a process of displacing people due to increases in rents. Capitalist development is at the expense of low income housing and the most vulnerable and oppressed people in the Olympia community. What can we do to make Olympia a city that is pro human rather than pro landlord? How can we stop housing projects that will drive the poor out of Olympia? How can we build people powered alternatives?
For the last hour, depending on how things go, we can break out into neighborhood groups to discuss meaningful steps we can take to make the world a better place. The Westside NAC has decided to do some kind of solidarity network/rapid response network in regards to: 1. issues with bosses and business as usual 2. issues with landlords/gentrification 3. cout support when there is injustice. 4. and other simlar yet different problems we face in our communities. How can we build that network?
