Dear friends,
It is with heavy hearts that we write to you all electronically to let you know that we will no longer be conducting the bi-monthly Prisoner Letter Writing Nights in-person at Pipsqueak. Due to mass-health concerns for the community at large in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, these letter writing events will continue to be conducted online and at home. We will continue to use electronic means to highlight and provide resources for writing to people in prison, who are in such desperate need for our solidarity and support at this time.
We are inviting those who may not have access to envelopes, postage or the means to put a letter in the mail to reach out to us at psps (at) riseup (dot) net. You can type up your letter to your pen-pal, email it to us, and we will print it out and put it in the mail for you. Please be sure to include the name and return address you would like to use, or if you would like to use our mailing address, whereas we can take pictures of responses and email them to you. While the current measures to maintain personal health may be alienating and isolating, we must prove that we can adapt to them and manage to maintain contact with our friends who are locked up.
On this note, we invite everyone to read Joshua Williams’ recent editorial on the importance of friendship: https://itsgoingdown.org/joshua-williams-on-friendship/. Josh Williams was sentenced on December 10th, 2015 to 8 years in prison for trying to burn down a QuikTrip during a demonstration in Berkeley, MO on Christmas Eve, 2014 that was held in response to the police murder of Antonio Martin.
