FROM THE OCCUPIED TERRITORIES TO OUR NEIGHBORHOODS – AMAZON IS THE BACKBONE OF APARTHEID, SURVEILLANCE, POLICE VIOLENCE AND MILITARISM
Amazon is the technological back bone of the Israeli apartheid regime – they have multi-billion dollar contracts providing cloud services and servers to the Israeli state, its police and military. The infrastructure that Amazon provides enables them to communicate, to collect, analyze and archive the data needed for the expansion of illegal settlements and the repression of the Palestinian people.[1]
We can look more closely at what they do here to understand just how deeply our struggles are linked with the struggles of the Palestinian peoples – what Amazon does there, they do here. Amazon Web Services is the backbone of ICE’s Investigative Case Management (ICM) system which aggregates and analyzes a vast amount of public and private data to track and deport immigrants.[2]
Amazon also maintains a vast network of real time surveillance via Ring Cameras and partners with more than 2000 police departments across the country to share feeds and data from them – including the Olympia Police Department.[3][4]
It’s about time Amazon becomes a target – their critical infrastructure is all over our region and it’s this infrastructure that has also been a strong element in gentrification destroying our neighborhoods and pushing us out of our homes. The fight against Amazon is a fight on multiple fronts with effects for struggles all over the world.
We offer some agitational materials – while they are tailored to St’cas (Olympia), they can be easily edited for another city or just used as inspiration for the creation of your own materials.
We’ve included targets up north in Victoria and Vancouver BC in hopes of being helpful to comrades up north and perhaps fostering some cross-border solidarity and coordination.
There are also some ubiquitous targets that aren’t specifically listed but aren’t hard to find either – Ring Cameras which only need a small pry-bar to remove, as well as Amazon Lockers you can find in many stores. Good Hunting! (A)
