Stand With Unist’ot’en Banner Drop in Seattle, WA

submitted anonymously

In response to the call for solidarity with the Unist’ot’en and Gidimt’en, a couple of us got together this morning to erect a banner facing the morning traffic headed into Seattle.

Yesterday, the RCMP staged a raid of the Gidimt’en blockade on the forest road that leads to Wet’suwet’en territories. Members of the Wet’suwet’en Nation have been asserting their traditional rights to their lands by blocking access to the lands of the Unist’ot’en in order to prevent the construction of a pipeline. This blockade has lasted for nearly 10 years, and has also sought to create strategies to expand a non-hierarchical land-based resistance movement to oppose exploitative extractive industries. As we write this, the Gidimt’en blockade has been breached by the RCMP, over a dozen arrests were made, and we nervously wait for news of what will happen to the Unist’ot’en blockade just up the road.

Our hearts go out to those on the frontlines braving the below-freezing winter weather and violence of the state by the hands of the cops. Every struggle is a struggle against the police.

Strength to those setting fire to the barricades!
